Hi my name is Emilee Sturm! I am originally from Los Angeles, where I grew up with my mother, father, and younger brother Josh (who is starting his second year at UCSC). In 2014 I was thrilled to get into my first-choice college, UC Santa Cruz. I graduated in June 2018, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Education. Since I was 9 years old (and started a kid’s camp in my backyard lol) I have known I wanted a future working with children. I spent summers as a camp counselor, and I have worked as a nanny for over 8 years for all ages, toddlers to teens.
In the Spring of 2017 I was offered an internship at Coastal Community Preschool and I fell in love working with this age group, in this kind of environment. I have been working here in different capacities ever since. I am excited and feel privileged to now have the position of Afternoon Teacher! My boyfriend, Kyle, was offered a great job in Scotts Valley so we jumped at the opportunity to stay in Santa Cruz, the town we love and call home. In addition to being a nanny and working at CCP, I was a full-time student, served on the executive board of my sorority, hosted and ran events, and helped organized philanthropic outreach.
I have always been fascinated by human development, how we come to be who we are, and what motivates our actions and behaviors. At UCSC I took many courses in social and developmental psychology. In addition to my education at UCSC I have taken ECE courses at Pierce and Saddleback Community Colleges to further my knowledge and credentials for teaching pre-school. In the next few years I will apply to a Master’s Program for an MFT (Marriage Family Therapy license). I want to be a Therapist for children with a focus on play therapy. I love teaching preschool and will remain teaching while furthering my education and building my career.
